Reduce, reuse, and recycle: three verbs that are the path to sustainability for our society and the planet. They're often used lightly in the fashion world, but at Pisaverde, we take them very seriously. Let's start with the basics: What do these words mean?
Reducing means consuming less. This means stopping buying products we don't need, rejecting products designed to be short-lived or even to be thrown away after use. These are cloned objects that exist only to be consumed and feed our desire to buy, consuming our planet's resources.
That's why we make our footwear and accessories with their own unique character, so they last as long as possible. When we create one of our pieces, we have in mind that they will accompany the person who chooses to wear them for a good part of their life. And we're so committed to this idea that we offer maintenance and repair services for all our products.
Reusing is using an object again, either for the same purpose for which it was created or for a new purpose, without transforming it along the way, and with the goal of preventing it from becoming trash. Because the only thing that turns an object into trash is when it's thrown away.
At Pisaverde, we make our footwear with leather recovered from the food industry or discarded by the textile industry because it's "no longer fashionable."
Through reuse, these leathers have found a second life in the form of unique, sustainable footwear with its own personality.
Recycling involves making new products using materials obtained from previously used ones. Once again, at Pisaverde, we know these processes firsthand, as is the case with our PET soles: made from recycled plastic bottles.
Another example could be our banana fiber line. After all, once the fruit is removed, the banana tree is treated as a waste product of the agricultural industry. We recover this waste to develop a fabric from the fiber we extract from banana tree stems.
In short, our creations are made to last, helping us reduce consumption. They are made using artisanal processes that consume less energy than industrial processes. We use natural raw materials that we rescue from becoming waste, giving them a second life. We incorporate recycled materials into our designs. All of this because we take the 3Rs very seriously.
Taking these rules into account brings us closer to a more sustainable and circular production system. If you're curious and want to browse some of our Pisaverdes, don't hesitate to visit our catalog!
