Pisaverde and the Sustainable Development Goals

Since its inception more than 25 years ago, Pisaverde has been characterized by its sustainable approach; by an anti-establishment stance that proposes and promotes different ways of doing things. This results in alignment with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which seek a shift in the growth model to pay greater attention to people and the environment.

In particular, and although the 17 SDGs are interrelated, we contribute to these:

With SDG 8, it's important to remember that sustainable development has three interdependent dimensions: economic, social, and environmental. Like any business, we seek to generate wealth, but not in any kind of way. We are committed to economic growth that stems from sustainable development; that is, growth that allows us to meet the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.

To continue producing in the future, we must maintain the availability of raw materials and the conditions necessary to be able to produce at that time. We know that the way things have been done is not sustainable over time, which is why we support sustainable growth and, of course, decent work, as a strategy to promote people's empowerment and quality of life. We believe that companies should generate value not only for themselves but also for their customers, their employees, and their communities.

Value is not only found in what we create with hard work and passion, but also in what we preserve. That's why we contribute to SDG 12: to promote responsible production and consumption. This is a shared responsibility: as producers, we must produce with environmental conservation in mind as a source of resources and a foundation for our quality of life, and as consumers, we must choose products that are more respectful of nature and society.

We also contribute to SDG 11, which seeks sustainable cities by reducing the negative environmental impact on the communities we serve. Pisaverde uses high-quality natural materials that are also recycled. Our leathers are recovered from the textile and food industries; in other words, we are giving a second life to a material that would otherwise be wasted. Likewise, our philosophy, aligned with the SDGs, has led us to incorporate other materials and processes that always seek to reduce the negative impact on nature, such as soles made from recycled plastic bottles or the use of toluene-free products.

SDG 13: Climate Action encourages us to mitigate climate change because, while scientists point out that the damage has already been done, we must adapt to what it entails and, of course, stop generating so many negative impacts. This is why at Pisaverde we constantly think and create solutions like our Badanascan product, for which we rescue another material from being considered waste: the banana tree stem, from which we extract natural fibers that we dye and spin, ensuring minimal environmental impact. Later, also recovering traditional techniques, we take the banana fibers to a loom to manufacture this exclusive fabric, which we incorporate into our designs and processes for the artisanal manufacture of unique shoes and bags for unique people.

We want to continue deepening and expanding our contribution to the SDGs, especially because we are part of an island territory: surrounded by water and marine life. Therefore, we are particularly concerned about SDG 14, life below water, and we strive to prevent more waste from reaching the sea. We also promote changes toward more sustainable tourism.

We contribute to the sustainable growth of our island by developing local products that are increasingly environmentally friendly and by using locally sourced raw materials. Our products contribute to the island's appeal.

We are a company that is part of the solution, and we want to continue joining forces to achieve the sustainable development goals and thereby preserve our planet and our quality of life.
